Mae Hong Son

Mae Hong Son is also goes by the names Maehongsorn Maehongson, or Mae Hong Sorn. It is a reference to the northern province of Changwat in Thailand. Loosely translated to English, Mae Hong Son means the city of the three mists. It covers a total land area of 13, 814 Km2. The landscape is covered with mist all year round. the area is known as an idea elephant training ground. There are daily flights to the airport in Man Hong Son due to the high traffic of tourists flocking the area to and from the connecting airport at Chiang Mai. Motorbikes and bicycles are also a very popular means of transportation. To access the remote hill communities one may be forced to walk on foot. They are lured by the beautiful natural scenery, adventure opportunity and hill tribe communities. Most areas of the Mae Hong Son province are covered by virgin forests.

Mae Hong Son has a variety of tourist attractions which include Tham Pla – Pha Suea National Park, Namtok Pha Suea, Phu Klon Country Club, Namtok Mae Surin National Park, Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu, Wat Chong Kham, Bua Tong Fields at Doi Mae U-Kho, Huai Nam Dang National Park among many other attractions.

Most people come to Mae Hong Son is popular for hosting a variety of recreational activities like mountain biking, rafting, treks, spa and elephant trekking. There is also an exotic cuisine to savor. This includes the world famous Mae Hong Son tea. The area is accessible all year round, a fact that can be attributed to the availability of adequate infrastructure.
